A WELL STYLED LIFE

...style is more than what you wear, it's how you live your life

Brimming with This & That

Target white denim jacket

I haven't worn this Helen Kaminski (similar) hat for several years, but it was perfect for sailing on the San Francisco Bay two weeks ago. It has adjustable ties which allowed me to tighten the band as we rounded Angel Island and hit the infamous slot , with strong currents and winds usually averaging 20-25 knots.

Needless to say...this picture was taken as we headed out. By the time we got back to the dock my hair looked like 3 cats had been wrestling in it.

Eco skin care

My new Kari Gran order arrived last week which prompted me to clean out my old skin care products.

Are these things procreating in my medicine cabinet?  I was horrified at the number of  hope in a jar magic potions I'd collected.

Several weeks ago I won a Kari Gran giveaway from Leslie, who writes the beautiful blog, Around The Table. I'll be sharing my experience using Kari Gran in another post, but in a nutshell...I'm hooked on it. Thank you Leslie!!  I reordered the full size set and another travel kit to have ready for my next trip.

I sorted through and cleaned out my lipsticks and foundations.  They apparently reproduce at will as well!

Rouge Coco Shine

After tossing an embarrassing amount of old makeup,  I needed some color therapy and hit the Chanel counter.

I love this new Chanel Rouge Coco Shine lipstick. It's very moisturizing but still long lasting. Feels like silk on my lips. This pink  #55  is lighter than I usually wear and more flattering than I would have thought. The #54 is too pale for me so I  layer it over a deeper lip pencil.

After reading several reviews, I decided to try  Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua  foundation. It's very lightweight and the color match is perfect...unusual for me. So far, I'm liking it a lot.

Thursday I met Jody,Kim and Elizabeth for lunch at Bumble, in Los Altos. My new Panama Fedora was perfect. Thin, very lightweight and perfect for the warm day.

This weekend found us back in Sausalito for another day on SF Bay with friends. My Hat Attack Fedora (similar) was sufficient sun coverage because I stayed ashore.

There was an unfortunate collision between my toe and an ottoman Thursday night and I could only wear sandals. Not a good option for sailboats so I had a nice long visit with my brother-in-law, who lives nearby.

Merryvale Winery

That evening we gave a small dinner party. We started out with Caprese skewers, dressed with my favorite Merryvale Olive Oil, and ended the night with a Vintage Porto.  Candles were lit with my husbands new find...a lighter in the shape of a wrench. Who thinks these things up?

Have you bought any new makeup lately that works especially well?

When's the last time you cleaned out your makeup drawer?

I'm linking up with Hat Attack #11 and Visible Monday.

  1. Last week we went through Emily's make up...she had a ton and really only wears eyeliner and lip balm. Sigh. Remember when? I went through mine well over two months ago during one of those freezing spring days. I love Chanels Icognito eye make up and Nars Orgasm Stick (blush). I need super strength eyebrow gel but have not ventured out to the make up counter in quite awhile. So glad you are having fun. Joy is quite contagious.

  3. Jennifer!
I am hooked on Kari Gran too!
I was ready for new skin treatment when Leslie had her give away! Feeling unlucky, and impatient, I ordered the travel size to test! I was hooked immediately and ordered the regular size for fear of running out! I love having the travel size bottles on hand. They traveled quite well by car and air on my recent trip to Boise!
I was jazzed when I read that you won the give away, and have been meaning to ask you how you liked the products.
    Now I know!
Lot's of goodness from head to tummy in this post!

  4. Hello, I'm visiting from Visible Monday. Loved the hat and it sounds like it served your purpose and what a lovely warm day you had. I've never been sailing but would like to someday. I did however have dinner at the St Francis Yacht Club on a recent San Francisco trip, does that count? ha ha. I will be checking back to hear about your new products, Kari Gran.
    Best, Sharon

  10. How deliciously you live life's moments, Jennifer. Love your hats. Last time I visited San Francisco was with my husband in 1985. We were eight months into our marriage. Combined the trip with Hawaii, and would you believe I liked San Fran more? Sausalito ...sigh.
No new makeup, but I like Lancome... MUST organize my drawer.

    1. I think the do da you mean is a mercury glass mini vase...or you might be looking at the candelabra base. Oh no, I didn't know he was still sick!! That's a long time. I haven't googled the life of a lipstick, but I do use a lot of organic ones without preservatives, so they need to be replaced pretty frequently. xo

    1. The most difficult part about wearing a hat, is putting it on. Just put it on, step out the door, and forget it's on your head. You'll remember it's there when you get your first compliment:)

That's why they multiply in my drawer! My toe is still an issue. Thank goodness it's not raining. Thanks goodness it's not raining. Lunch was so fun.

  21. You look like such a seasoned sailor in your hats, but a very pretty, completely non-grizzled, totally un-piratical one! And you have some outrageously elegant non-necessaries in your makeup cabinet! Glad you had a wonderful time. I never got the hang of a hat on a boat!
I have to tell you about my San Francisco nautical adventures. In another life, I had occasion to get a ride from Seattle to SF on a 75' tug boat. Great experience out away from shore, all the way down. We tied up near Richmond and hot footed it out to dinner ... we wound up drinking rusty nails until the wee hours with the Portuguese engineer. I was so hung over the next day, but was bearing it fairly bravely until we headed out and turned north beyond the point. The tides meet there at one point in nasty, bucky ways, and I lost my tummy several times before we found smoother water. I'll never do anything as stupid again, but I wouldn't trade the trip for the world.

    1. Your other life sounds like a hoot!! It's pretty choppy outside the gate. I couldn't have handled it. I'm a very fair weather sailor. Dramamine is my constant companion on the water. I'm not a real salty dog, but I try to play one when needed. Thanks for sharing your adventure. I'd love to hear the long version of it. Sounds amazing.

  24. I cannot move past my Eyenvy eyelashes as you may have noticed. I get so many comments and compliments on them that I have reduced a lot of my make up to account for them. But I so wish I could wear a hat and look like I should be wearing a hat. Maybe I can find a product to help with that... Hatenvy is what I have!

  25. Wow, I've never seen San Francisco so sunny and bright. How glorious all the things you did and how you looked.

I don't collect much makeup but my hat collection is another story, gaining two more this week. :)
